Kumlubük, Amos and Bencik: Marmaris's Quiet Coves

If you'd like to escape Marmaris's busy beaches for a calmer day, the coves on the south of the peninsula are just right. Kumlubük, Amos and Bencik are three peaceful stops that keep their natural character.

Kumlubük Bay

Lying beyond Turunç, Kumlubük is one of the region's most-loved coves thanks to its wide beach and calm sea. There are a few restaurants and small businesses around it, and the public part of the beach charges no entry fee. It makes an ideal day plan for those seeking tranquillity.

The ancient city of Amos

On the hill just above Kumlubük stands the roughly 2,200-year-old ancient city of Amos. In this settlement dating back to Roman times you can see the remains of a temple, theatre and city walls. The site, reached after a short climb, is accompanied by views over the cove and sea. There is usually no entry fee or strict visiting-hour limit; still, don't forget comfortable shoes and water.

Bencik Bay

A pine-covered natural harbour, Bencik is an unspoiled cove reachable both by boats from the sea and overland. As there are no facilities, you'll need to bring your own food and drink. From Bencik it's also possible to walk about half an hour to neighbouring Bördübet Bay.

How to get there

  • You can reach these coves by car or minibus; the road is winding in places, so take your time.
  • Some boat tours also stop at these coves; arriving by sea is a completely different pleasure.
  • Since some coves beyond Kumlubük have no shops, buy water, snacks and sun protection beforehand.

Staying in the centre, inside the castle, you can easily reach the starting points for these day routes. Check available dates →
